Teachers Conference (28 May 2019)

Making the Joy of Learning Visible, Teacher Conference 2019

The presenters set out to find out how secondary school students in Singapore perceive the ‘Joy of Learning’, and to explore ways in which to promote it through lesson design. In particular, they aimed to find out more about the ways students experience the joy of learning in the classroom, both in and outside of school. Data was collected by tape-recording interviews with secondary two and three students in 2018. Based on the themes surfaced from the coding process, characteristics of the ways in which students experience the joy of learning were identified. The sharing of the findings will guide educators to design effective lessons that promote the joy of learning in students in secondary schools and beyond.
